OUR FACILITIES

Urmila's father, (Late) Mr. Ratnamani Upadhyaya, mother (Late) Mrs. Meenkumari Upadhyaya, brothers Mr.Shivmani Upadhyaya and Mr.Achyutmani Upadhyaya, and sister Mrs.Munu Aryal donated their family home and the land around it to Kalaguthi for the operation of its training programs. In these premises we developed the necessary infrastructure for the operation of the textile and sericulture programs.

To meet the needs of Kalaguthi's training programs, we have built five new buildings over the period 1988 to 2000.

A Weaving Building (with four large rooms) was built on the premises to accommodate spinning, warping and weaving activities. The weaving is done on shaft and Jacquard looms.

On one side of the Weaving Building, a Central Building was built to house various other needs. This building houses a dyeing section with dyeing lab and a dark room with facilities for block and silk screen printing, a silk reeling machine, and a silk twisting machine. It also contains a dormitory for girls, a library, a conference room, a ceramic display room, two store rooms for raw materials and finished products and a kitchen.

A three-storey Sericulture Building was built at Lubhu, 10 kilometres away from the Central Building, to accommodate various activities of Sericulture including rearing of silk worms and cocoons.

A two-storey Gallery Building was built on Kalaguthi premises on the road side to organize exhibitions of products of trainees from time to time.

We also built a Staff Residence Building within walking distance (about 10 minutes) of the Kalaguthi premises.

The Central Building and the Gallery Building were designed our architect, Mr. Kamlakar Joshi, a past Board member of SOFON. Architects, Mr. Dey and Mr. Dev Dhungana completed further work on designs and details.

During the past 20 years we have acquired 50 spinning wheels, 30 shaft looms, 10 Jacquard looms, 6 Dobby looms, 10 sample looms, and 15 tapestry frame looms.

All of the above buildings were built during the period 1987 to 2002.
